Google changes its core search algorithm around 500-600 times in a single year. This thing is already confirmed by Google itself. Many reputed search marketing blogs also mention this thing number of times in their blog posts. Core search algorithm is doing great work by serving best search results for any searched query but it is not strong enough to fight with different types of spam so for that purpose, Google has developed separate algorithms like Google Panda, Google Penguin, Page Layout, EMD, Google Pirate and Pay Day Loan.
Further, Google have separate algorithm named ‘Google Pigeon’ to serve best search results for Local search queries. Now, these separate algorithms are also regularly updated by Google which affects search results in significant ways. Search marketing people regularly keep track of such algorithmic update as it helps them to improve their SEO efforts.
Google Panda is already integrated into core search algorithm and Google is in a process of integrating Penguin into the same so in the future, we may see less updates. In 2015, we have experienced very less notable updates compare to 2014 because of some reasons like:
- Google don’t want to confirm such algorithm updates.
- Google didn’t find need of other major algorithm updates in 2015.
- Like Panda, Google is also testing other major algorithms within core search algorithm.
In 2015, we got less Google algorithm updates but some of the algorithm updates of 2015 are very important to worth list and know:

Many SEOs didn’t notice major changes in website traffic and keyword rankings as Google Panda 4.2 update was not fully rolled out. Actual launch might be closer to spring 2015. RankBrain is the 3rd most influential ranking factor in Google’s core search algorithm.
When to Expect Next Google Penguin Algorithm Update?
The last Google Penguin update, Penguin 3.0 came on October 17, 2014, more than 13 months ago. It was officially confirmed by Google. Since then webmasters are waiting for next Penguin update. In October-2015, Google Webmaster Trends Analyst Gary Illyes has responded on Twitter with ‘Yes’ on the question ‘Hey Gary, think we’ll see a Penguin roll-out in 2015?’
But in first week of December-2015, a Google spokesperson told to Search Engine Land that “With the holidays upon us, it looks like the penguins won’t march until next year.”
So, we can expect next Google Penguin Algorithm Update in first quarter of 2016. This is just a speculation. Update could be more delayed as seeing nature of Google in past.
