Calenso is advanced appointment booking software that streamlines scheduling for small and medium-sized businesses across industries such as insurance, real estate, and eGovernment. Built with CakePHP (backend) and Angular (frontend), Calenso lets partner companies register, buy subscriptions, and add workers, services, stores, and resources. Workers manage availability, create events, and share appointment links with customers for seamless online scheduling. Calenso also runs smart actions — appointment confirmations, reminders, and birthday notifications — for smooth customer communication.

Objective

Build a Smart Widget that lets partner companies customize their booking widget to match their website theme; add a text search over encrypted data to improve calendar filtering; and design a compact widget and onboarding process to enhance user experience.

The Challenge

Three concrete problems: developing a booking widget with customizable CSS that integrates seamlessly with a partner's site theme; enabling text search over encrypted data to filter customers by first and last name; and designing a compact, user-friendly widget with a structured six-step onboarding process.

The Solution

The honest difficulty. The demanding part was enabling free-text name search over encrypted data without breaking the encryption or slowing the calendar — searching encrypted fields is inherently hard. Solving it let Calenso keep customer data secure while still giving users fast, practical filtering.
